Climb A Beautiful Mountain.

(All Abilities Are Welcome)

Fri 21st March - Sat 22nd March 2025

Looking for a taste of mountaineering – this is the trip for you.

Join a group of adults for an epic winter weekend - in Snowdonia (Wales).

Mount Snowdon in the winter is less busy and simply gorgeous.

The plan is to climb Mount Snowdon on one of the days, and enjoy an ‘off-the-beaten-track’ mountain on the other day - to experience a more remote side of Snowdonia.

Who can join: All abilities are welcome. All that’s required is average fitness. For ages 18+. Maximum group size is 16 participants, with 2 instructors (Charles and Joe).

Price: £150 for the two days.

Travel to Wales

You’ll travel to Snowdonia – it’s around 3.5 hours if driving from Oxford.

There many hotel choices, we mostly use:

- YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass -around £40/night

- The Rocks - fantastic shared rooms for couples or small groups (see photo) but book early

You need to book accommodation near Ten-y-Coed (Capel Curig, Betws-y-Coed, LL24 0EE) because that is where we meet on the Friday and Saturday mornings before we drive to the mountains - and where you can enjoy a group dinner (optional).

DAY 1 - Mount Snowdon (weather dependent)

We’ll meet at Ten-y-Coed car park (Capel Curig, Betws-y-Coed, LL24 0EE) at 9.00am. You need to be fed and dressed for the mountains (see kit list below).

Then we jump in cars and drive to our Mount Snowdon start point.

Hiking to the summit via the well known Pyg Track, it’s a gentle 4 to 6 hours return trip to the summit. The pyramid summit reveals itself early on, so you can see clearly what you’re aiming for (which helps motivate).

It’s a clear path all the way, with occasional hands on scrambling sections which pose only a moderate challenge.

However, the weather can be challenging, so we will carry winter gear (see kit list below).

The summit is breath taking, with views stretching over mountains to the sea.

Coming off the mountain, we can enjoy a hot chocolate and meet again later for group dinner (optional).

DAY 2 - A remote mountain…

This one we keep as a surprise.

Instructor Joe knows this area intimately and will lead us somewhere exciting and remote, on a route which suits the strengths and interests of the team.

At the end of the day (after more hot chocolate), you can drive home - or enjoy a third night at your accommodation and return home on the Sunday.

“Trips are really well organised and challenging in the right way. Thoroughly recommend.”

Kit list

We suggest these items of kit.

Don’t spend a fortune!

Most important are the hiking boots (must support the ankle) and a proper waterproof jacket (doesn’t have to be GORE-TEX). We recommend Decathlon or Go Outdoors for great prices.

March time can still be surprisingly cold on the summits, so please dress appropriately.
